Kabataang Pilipino, Inc. is a fulfillment of a promise.
 

This promise was made several years ago by its Founding Chairman, Jun Kabigting, when he was bidding for a scholarship grant to study MBA in the U.S. He promised to himself that if he gets the scholarship he will share the blessing to others in every possible way he can.

Eventually in 1999, Jun got a full MBA scholarship grant from the Asian Development Bank (www.adb.org) under its Government of Japan Scholarship Program and the Hawaii-based East-West Center (www.eastwestcenter.org) in cooperation with the Japan-America Institute of Management Science (www.jaims.org) also based in Hawaii.

As part of the fulfillment of the requirements of the MBA degree of the University of Hawaii at Manoa, a two-month internship in a company in Japan was required from each student. In doing so, JAIMS has managed to place Jun in the world's largest consulting firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers (www.pwcglobal.com), specifically in its Human Resource consulting practice.

Starting out as an intern, Jun was eventually absorbed by PwC to become a part of its Global Human Resource Solutions (GHRS) practice in Japan. "And the rest," as they say "is history…" In hindsight, this was the start of the fulfillment of a promise that is to become KPI.

​

Partnering with other people who share with the idea that in the educated Filipino youth lies the hope of the Philippines' progress, Jun together with his family and close personal and professional friends then proceeded to form what is now Kabataang-Pilipino, Inc. or KPI.

​

KPI's process of birth was not easy. From the very start, it was decided to make the operations of KPI compliant with all legal requirements and to avail of the preferential tax treatments accorded to non-government, non-profit organizations. However, it took several months to secure KPI's legal entity documents and permits from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and from the local government. Fortunately, this work stream was diligently and excellently managed by Ms. Lydia and Rowena Kabigting, former Trustees and Officers of KPI. [Click here to see the SEC Registration Certificate]

KPI's flagship program, the KPI Scholarship Program, was also simultaneously being conceived by Jun and other former members of the Board, in particular, Norman Torres, former Executive Director and Ma. Theresa de Leon, former Board Secretary.  Both were previously with the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) and several non-government organizations. Using their background in their NGO works, the Team developed the program's implementing guidelines for the selection of the Program's scholars.

Recognizing the enormous power of the Internet, KPI launched its own web site to establish its presence in the World Wide Web. It has also adopted as a strategy the use of technology as a networking, marketing, and funding tool to reach out to more people both Filipinos and foreigners alike.

​

KPI is just beginning its work. We envision a better Philippines driven by responsible, talented, and well-educated youth. However, we can not do it alone.
